DRUMMING AND MEDITATION

Workshop for Health Care Practitioners

Cultivating Therapeutic Presence
with Rhythm, Mindfulness, and Visualization

Saturday November 28, 2009
Workshop: 10am- 1:00 p.m.
Location: TBA (general area Lawrence and Avenue)

This workshop will comprise both theoretical and experiential components of an innovative program, TDMV (Therapeutic Drumming, Mindfulness and Visualization), as a way to cultivate therapeutic presence.   Therapeutic presence includes being fully and completely in the moment on a multitude of levels including physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual.  Presence includes bringing one’s whole self to meet the client in a way that is open, accessible, grounded, and spacious.

In this workshop we will explore TDMV as a way to cultivate the most fundamental and basic therapeutic tool, ourselves as well as allow for a deepening into the moment.  of presence.  Drumming and mindfulness combined helps to open more fully to the moment on psychological, physiological, neurological and spiritual domains.  TDMV also helps to relieve stress and to recognize and move through obstacles or blocks to being fully present.  With enhanced presence and compassion for self, comes a greater ability to offer presence and compassion for others.  This is also an opportunity to have an interactive and fun way to be creative, release stress and connect to a community of therapists and caregivers.

NO DRUMMING OR MEDITATION EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.

This workshop is open to health care providers such as psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians, chiropractors, massage therapists, psychotherapists, physiotherapists, nurses, occupational therapists, etc.

SELF-CARE FOR THE HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONER:

A Weekend of Mindfulness through Rhythm, Photography and Meditation

Friday May 1, 2009: 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Saturday May 2, 2009 10 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Location: Northeast of Markdale, 25 minutes south-east of Owen Sound

This workshop will be a dynamic, fun, introspective and community building opportunity for health care practitioners to care for self as well as practice mindfulness using drumming, sound, contemplative photography and meditation.  In addition to the mental and physical health benefits, everyday mindfulness naturally encourages presence, self-acceptance, self-care, and self-honesty.  Drumming allows our authentic and compassionate selves to express and play in community.  Photography, practiced as mindful seeing, promotes perception of new perspectives and flexible responsiveness to our selves and to others.  With these practices, we can develop new ways of deep listening and self-expression as well as care for our most important tool as health care practitioners, ourselves.  With self-care comes an enhanced energy and capacity to feel connected with and to care compassionately for others.

NO EXPERIENCE WITH MEDITATION, DRUMMING OR PHOTOGRAPHY IS NECESSARY.

Cost: $195 (Early Bird Rate: $175 if registered and paid by April 10, 2009)
