Scarborough Women's Centre Letter
The Scarborough Women's Centre helps women who have suffered from domestic abuse.
Sam told me that he loved me so much, that he couldn't bear for anyone else to look at me...
He loved me so much that he didn't want me to take a job, so that I would be home whenever he phoned...
He loved me so much that he wanted me to stop calling my family and friends, because they took away from our time together….
I didn't recognize the signs...
The day came that he loved me so much that he had to hit me to blow the steam off... that he loved me so much that he locked me in the house because he knew I was afraid of him and wanted to flee...
Every day
women call the Scarborough Women's Centre for help to get out of an abusive
situation. We provide services for women facing challenges such as living in or recovering from abuse. We do this so
they can implement
long-term positive changes with confidence. Many of the women using the Centre
are dealing with abuse, poverty, and isolation. With your help, these women will
receive counselling, get back into the workforce, and participate in programs
designed to increase their self-esteem.
Your support
will help provide an anonymous and confidential telephone
counselling service; educational workshops; a mentoring program; an
economic self-sufficiency program and action designed to bring positive change
to our community.
Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
Chair, Fundraising Committee

This letter was written some years ago, but the information has not changed. I have been delighted with the help that the Centre has given to counselling clients I have referred to them.--Beth Mares, Toronto marriage counsellor
